The U.S. believes that the so-called elections held
in Abkhazia on October 3 were unhelpful and detrimental
to the efforts to resolve the conflict.
The United Nations Security Council has stated that
it considers these elections unacceptable and
illegitimate.
We reaffirm our full support for the territorial
integrity of Georgia, and note that neither the U.S.,
nor any other state, recognizes Abkhazia as
independent.
The U.S. urges all sides and outside actors to renew
their efforts to resolve the
conflict.
