Tolerance Implementation Meeting on Promoting Inter-Cultural, Inter-Religious and Inter-Ethnic Understanding - Almaty, Kazakhstan, June 12-13, 2006
The first of three expert-level implementation-focused meetings on tolerance and non-discrimination in 2006, the Almaty meeting gathered representatives from governments and NGOs to exchange recommendations on facilitating inter-cultural, inter-religious, and inter-ethnic dialogue and partnerships.

Participants discussed the roles that tolerance education, the media, legislation, law enforcement, and international initiatives play in promoting tolerance and respect for diversity, as well as for conflict prevention and post-conflict reconciliation.

A one-day NGO preparatory event also generated recommendations for promoting tolerance among youth and for encouraging government-civil society partnerships.
