General Statement to the 677th Meeting of the Forum for Security Co-operation

March 14, 2012

Madame Chairperson,

As part of the continuing desire of the United States of America to assist countries with the secure and efficient management of their Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) as well as Stockpiles of Conventional Ammunition (SCA), I have the honor to announce that in support of upgrading the Kyrgyz Republic’s capabilities for storage of SALW and Conventional Ammunition in Buzhum, Gul’cha and Koy-Tash, we have issued a grant of 500,000 US dollars (or approximately 382,000 Euros).

We note that the proposal we are supporting is based on requests for technical assistance to enhance stockpile management and security of storage sites for Small Arms and Light Weapons and associated ammunition in accordance with the OSCE Documents on SALW and Stockpiles of Conventional Ammunition.

The United States wishes to express its appreciation to the CPC and the FSC’s SALW and SCA Coordinator LtCol László Szatmári for their excellent assistance in making this grant possible.

Thank you, Madame Chairperson.
