As delivered by Ambassador Ian Kelly
to the Permanent Council, Vienna
July 4, 2013
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
The United States congratulates the people of Mongolia on their June 26th presidential election in which voters re-elected President Elbegdorj. We note that election day was peaceful, voter participation was high, and preliminary indications are that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner in accordance with the Mongolian Constitution. Mongolia continues to demonstrate its commitment to the further development of the principles of democracy and free and fair elections. We are confident that Mongolia will work with ODIHR to address any electoral shortcomings raised in ODIHR’s final report.
The United States wishes to thank those participating States that contributed short and long-term election observers to the OSCE’s election observation mission.
After more than two decades of impressive democratic and market economic transformation, Mongolia continues to serve as a positive example for emerging democracies around the world.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
