Condolences for Russian Plane Crash in Sinai and Lives Lost in Bucharest Fire: Statement to the PC

We would like to express our sorrow to those OSCE participating States whose citizens lost their lives in the crash of Kogalymavia Flight 9268 over Sinai, Egypt. Secretary Kerry spoke to Foreign Minister Lavrov on October 31 to express the United States’ deepest condolences to the families and friends of the 224 people killed. Secretary Kerry also offered to provide U.S. assistance, if needed.

We are also deeply saddened by the terrible tragedy resulting from a fire in a Bucharest nightclub on October 30. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the 32 young people whose lives were lost, and our thoughts are with the many more who remain in critical condition. The United States joins the people of Romania and others across the world in mourning such a profound tragedy.

Thank you, Mr. Chair.

As delivered by Ambassador Daniel B. Baer to the OSCE Permanent Council, Vienna
