ODIHR Final Elections Report on the United States of America

As delivered by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Elisabeth Rosenstock-Siller
to the Permanent Council, Vienna
February 11, 2021

Thank you, Madam Chair.

I would like to thank ODIHR for arranging a Limited Election Observation Mission in the United States despite the complications posed by the pandemic.  ODIHR has just published its final report, and the United States is grateful for the professional and detailed manner in which ODIHR conducted its work.

Voting to choose one’s leaders is one of the most cherished rights in a democracy.  In the United States we are proud of our democratic institutions and the thousands of poll workers and state and federal government officials who tirelessly serve during every election to ensure our citizens cast their ballots in full freedom and with confidence in the integrity of the elections process.

This election featured record levels of participation, and we are pleased the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council declared it was “the most secure in American history.”

We will review the ODIHR report and its recommendations and look forward to engaging with ODIHR’s election experts when they visit the United States for technical-level consultations this Spring.

Thank you, Madam Chair.
