On Political Prosecution of Pavlo Hryb

Thank you, Mr. Chair.
The United States condemns the March 22 sentencing of Ukrainian student Pavlo Hryb in a Russian court to six years imprisonment on dubious charges of terrorism. Apparently, Mr. Hryb’s “crime” was criticizing Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea on social media. We are very concerned by reports of Mr. Hryb’s deteriorating health. We call for his immediate release.
