On the Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
The statement of the Presidents of the three Co-Chair countries has been read by the Russian representative on behalf of the three Minsk Co-Chairs. In my national capacity, I wish to make the following statement:
The United States, as a Minsk Group Co-Chair country, reiterates its support for the statement by the Co-Chairs October 1, this day, and our calls on September 29 to cease hostilities immediately, and to refrain from any action that exacerbates the situation.
The United States calls on the sides to stop fighting immediately and return to substantive negotiations under the auspices of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs as soon as possible and without preconditions. The United States believes participation in the escalating violence by any external party would only aggravate the regional issues .
Mr. Chairman, this statement is made in our national capacity, following on the statement of the Presidents.
