Reply to Russia on the need for monitoring on the Russia-Ukraine border: Statement to the PC

I just want to respond to the distinguished Russian delegate’s outrageous statement that there were dishonest attempts by myself and by other representatives around this table to rewrite the Minsk Agreement. In fact, what we just heard from the Russian delegation was another example of Russian dishonesty. The February 12 Package of Measures is titled a “Package of Measures” to support the implementation of “the Minsk AgreementS”. It therefore includes all of the agreements to which Russia had signed in Minsk last September, and those agreements include monitoring of the international border.

So for the Russian Federation to claim that our emphasis on elements of those agreements is dishonest is dishonest. The Russian Federation should go back and read the documents that it has signed again, and it should fulfill all points of the Minsk Agreements that it has so often called on everyone around this table to support.

Thank you, Mr. Chair.
