Response to the Update by the Secretary General on the Status of the OSCE Observer Mission at the Russian Checkpoints Gukovo and Donetsk
As delivered by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Kate M. Byrnes
to the Permanent Council, Vienna
January 26, 2017
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
In regards to the Observer Mission on the Russian-Ukrainian border, about which the Secretary General just spoke, I would like to stress that the United States values the work carried out by this OSCE field mission just as we value the important work carried out by the OSCE field missions in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. We hope the current impasse over renewal of all mandates of all five of these field missions is resolved, and they are able to continue their work. The United States stands ready to assist the Chair in its efforts to resolve this impasse.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
