Right of Reply to the Russian Federation on Human Rights Issues in U.S.
As delivered by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Elisabeth Rosenstock-Siller
to the Permanent Council, Vienna
April 15, 2021
Thank you, Madam Chair.
As my Russian colleague mentioned my country, I’d like to utilize my Right of Reply. As President Biden stated, the police shooting of Daunte Wright in a suburb of Minneapolis is tragic, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
As the President said, the anger, pain, and trauma that exists in the Black community is serious and consequential. There will be a full investigation, as in the United States no one is above the law.
This incident highlights the need for racial equity, which is a priority for the President. Regarding the March protests in Miami, the United States is committed to freedom of assembly, but we must also ensure the health and safety of our citizens. If there was excessive force used, then protestors have every right to request a full and complete investigation.
Thank you, Madam Chair.
