On July 7, 2023, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry participated in the OSCE High-Level Conference on Climate Change. This one-day conference, which took place in Vienna, provided a platform for climate leaders from OSCE participating States and OSCE-Partners for Cooperation as well as representatives of international organizations and civil society to explore prospects for further action on combatting climate-related security threats. Secretary Kerry took part in a panel which addressed specific challenges impacting climate security and climate action and identified ways to increase cooperation within the OSCE region. He stressed the importance of the OSCE as a multilateral organization to advance the political will to reduce emissions and promote rapid action. On the sidelines of the conference, Special Envoy Kerry met with several foreign counterparts to discuss climate diplomacy priorities.
