Statement in Connection with the Tense Situation in the Lachin Corridor and Humanitarian Concerns

As delivered by Ambassador Michael Carpenter
to the Permanent Council, Vienna
December 15, 2022

The closure of the Lachin corridor has severe humanitarian implications and unfortunately sets back the peace process. The United States is also very deeply concerned by reports of a gas shut off in Nagorno-Karabakh in the midst of winter, which also has humanitarian implications. We call on the government of Azerbaijan to restore free movement through the corridor. The way forward is through negotiations, and the United States stands ready to assist.
