Warsaw Human Dimension Conference 2023
The OSCE was founded on the principles that respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms was just as important to the concept of security as sovereignty of borders and peaceful settlement of disputes. And nearly every year since 1993, OSCE participating States met for the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) – Europe’s largest human rights conference – to hold each other accountable to these values.
Unfortunately, this year, Russia deliberately blocked HDIM in a blatant attempt to avoid international scrutiny for their woeful human rights records and keep civil society from speaking up and telling the truth about what is happening in their countries. However, 2023 OSCE Chair North Macedonia, with the support of the OSCE’s Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), is making sure that even if HDIM can’t happen, there is still a forum for governments, international organizations, and civil society from across the OSCE region to gather, to review and foster participating States’ compliance with their human rights-related OSCE commitments, and to suggest future action for the organization. The Warsaw Human Dimension Conference will be held from October 2 to 13, 2023 in Warsaw, Poland.
